Under the new system there are five Tiers through which individuals can apply to come to the UK.
- Tier 1: Highly skilled individuals
- Tier 2: Skilled workers
- Tier 3: Low skilled workers
- Tier 4: Students
- Tier 5: Youth mobility and temporary workers
Points can be earned through a number of different ways; e.g. for qualifications, experience of the UK and how much money migrants have available to fund their time in the UK. Individuals applying through Tiers 2 - 5 will need to ensure that they have a sponsor; this is the organisation they will be working for or an education institution they are attending.
Each category has different eligibility requirements and it is important that individuals should make sure that they have read the eligibility requirements in full before making an application.
